CuCoNiBe, DIN 17666 -  C17510, CW103C,  C17500 : CLASS 3 (III), CuCoNi1Be

CuCoNiBe is a copper-cobalt-nickel-beryllium alloy, known for its high strength, excellent hardness, good wear resistance, and reasonable electrical and thermal conductivity. The addition of cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), and beryllium (Be) to copper enhances its mechanical properties, making it suitable for applications requiring durability under mechanical stress.

Specifications:

  • High Strength and Hardness:

    • Tensile strength: 850–1000 MPa (depending on heat treatment).

    • Hardness: 240–350 HV.

  • Good Electrical and Thermal Conductivity:

    • Electrical conductivity: ~20–30% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard).

    • Thermal conductivity: ~200–250 W/m·K.

  • Excellent Wear and Fatigue Resistance:

    • Performs well in high-wear environments and under cyclic loading.

  • Corrosion Resistance:

    • Good resistance to atmospheric and industrial corrosion.

  • Non-Sparking Properties:

    • Safe for use in explosive or hazardous environments.

Applications:

CuCoNiBe is widely used in industries where a balance of mechanical strength, conductivity, and durability is required:

  • Mold Making:

    • Injection molds for plastics, die-casting molds, and core inserts.

  • Resistance Welding:

    • Electrodes and holders for spot and seam welding.

  • Aerospace:

    • High-performance bushings, bearings, and structural components.

  • Oil and Gas:

    • Non-sparking tools and components.

  • Marine:

    • Applications requiring corrosion resistance.

Standards and Norms:

CuCoNiBe is standardized under various international and regional norms:

  1. ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials):

    • ASTM B441: Copper-cobalt-beryllium alloy rods, bars, and forgings.

    • ASTM B534: Copper-cobalt-beryllium alloy plates, sheets, and strips.

  2. EN Standards (European Norms):

    • Designated as CW103C.

  3. DIN (German Standards):

    • Designated as 2.1285.

  4. UNS (Unified Numbering System):

    • Commonly listed as C17510.
